Yeah I mean to get rid of redundancy by simply putting the actual comment under the pictures without needing to repeat it in the text edit side.(twice the work).
Always wanted that and what you suggest is a variation. The way it is I usually just put a location caption then after going through the photo edit start all over (the report) to add on the text side. Sure you could click back and forth but that takes even more time. |

Okay, I've been following this for a while and I'm as lost as everybody else.
And like Bob, I feel some what limited in the way I can use photographs. What I currently do (which I do not recommend for anybody else necessarily), is that I dictate photo captions after they are slotted in HIP. I open up "add a picture" go through Tab #1 through whatever and dictate what I want to say about each picture. Then cut-and-paste. There is a picture for every discrepancy "practically". If it is short enough, I can use a caption drop-down, but for the most part I describe everything that needs to be said about the subject underneath the photograph (not in the discrepancy section). I then go back through the tabs in the report and when a picture (or more like a group of pictures) show up I will narrate a paragraph that discusses (or summarizes) everything concerning that system. This is generally placed in red and will show up in the summary if necessary. However I very seldom use summaries because it's just redundancy (in my opinion). If the agent demands it, I will print it that way. My biggest concern, which may be part of what you're saying (but different) is that we should be able to open a drop-down under the caption and have it operate just like a defect drop-down that goes in red or black. Incorporate lists, captions and anything else you can think of. Also when you hover over the caption you should be able to see everything that you wrote not just one third of the first line that you wrote. You'll be on the picture page. You can change contrast, you can insert an arrow , a circle, write a narrative one page long, incorporate lists in that paragraph, change its color, and anything else you do in the narrative areas. There is not enough flexibility in the caption box to do anything (is the major problem). You really don't need a caption if you want to describe it and put the picture under the description, but you have to move around the report to get that done. If you're looking at a picture and you have some the say about it, you can put it in the caption there and not have to go back to a narrative and redo it all over again. |

Okay here is a perfect idea but may never be implemented.
What if when you opened the photo caption box (after slotting ) of course the text editor opened at that exact tab giving you full access ? Think about that seriously as it would solve many time issues. Number one is that no matter how cool the photo caption widget is there is no way to have the text auto populate the report. The above idea would solve that dilemma. |

Still lost. Drew, I can't make HIP read minds. If you have one comment and 10 pics in a section, HIP will never be able to tell which of the 10 pics you want it in! Maybe I'm still missing something.
Bob, we could make it so that if you add a caption , that comment would show in red/black, but would anyone REALLY want that? That would give you duplicate text all over the report. Is that okay? |

Dom who asked for duplicate text ?
I would want the comment to show in red section summary only like now but without the pictures. Drew understands. Example: Photo of west wall with "loose mortar" with red caption and the caption turns into text at the summary. (second drop box if added would be recomendation terms perhaps) The summary is always duplication anyway which is the whole point here but I do not need it to appear in the text edit section as well. With the second drop feature we could simply use the standard (present) black text and keep material comments under photos only. Besides ...side bar....you tell us to type in text edit and then duplicate with caption dropdown anyway ,right ? (not that I do that ever) To sum up ...the idea is to have no need for going into the text edit as we do a report off photo notes at this time. Right now we go through the entire report twice. The add to summary should be add to summary the comments only (scratch the picture) and occur with or without text edit in that category. Right now we are forced to go to text edit to include the photo and caption in summary.(correct)? |
