Hello all!
I've been lurking for quite awhile trying to learn different aspects of the HIP program. Up to now, I've been using Homegauge. I have been mentoring under a very good inspector here who uses Homegauge on a wondows computer. I feel mmore comfortable on a Mac, and am very interested in becoming proficient with HIP using a Mac. My problem is that I am more of a hands on, "see it and do it" person. I would be willing to pay someone here for their time to show me how they use the program. I have the trial version on my mac now, and will purchase once I know I can work with the program well. I currently live here in western NY, 30 miles from both Rochester and Buffalo. I would NOT be competition in any way, since I do not have and will not get my NY license. We have our house for sale here in NY, and plan on moving to our Florida home next summer, when I retire from the Fire Dept here. I already have my home inspection business set up down in Florida and have my LLC, license, etc all set for Florida. I even went to the ASHI school down there in Tampa, just to learn more specifically about Florida homes. I'm embarrassed to say I just need some HIP training. If I could just sit down with someone proficient with using HIP, it would be great. ANY help would be most appreciated! Respectfully, Frank D'Angelo |

I would look at the sample templates, pick a few you like. Watch the tutorials that are posted on this board.
I would be glad to answer any questions if I could help out. You could try the ASHI and Nachi board and use the find an inspector search. Then check out there web sites. Look at there samples. If you see one that looks like HIp give that inspector a call. |

Thanks Dave!
I have tried a few sample reports. I've imported my pictures, typed in the customer info, etc. With Homeguage, I usually let my pictures be guide......clicking each picture, going to the correct system, (ie; if the panelbox has a double tap, I go to the electrical section). I do that with all my pics, of course deciding then if I use each picture. I usually take many more pics then needed, so many do not get into the report. I then go through all of the systems, putting in what type of siding, etc, etc. I just cannot seem to get a flow yet with HIP. I've watched the tutorials, etc. Has anyone ever posted thrir step by step method of doing their reports? Thanks! Frank D. |

This is what works best for me.
I enter the client data after booking the inspection. On site I enter selection and damage panels. This is where you need a good template. Set one up that is right for you. Are you a room by room or system by system inspector. Room by Room is faster. At home I download the pics and assign then to there section in report. (It is fastest to add pics after the damage panels have been seelcted. This way you can click and tap the comment. Like damaged shingles. No need repeating same info if the text is repeated. Then I proof read and email. |

Dave,
Thank you for your quick and kind reply. I'm not sure what you mean by "damage panels"....but I suspect you mean the deficiencies you find in the inspection that are serious. I put the most serious things I find in my summary, and I like, (because the realtors seem to want) my summary page right after the cover page. My report then shows a system by system rundown of everything, with anything found noted with pictures, explanations, etc. I usually do not put pictures in my summary because they will be further in the report. By selection, do you mean the General information, outside house, structures, utilities, etc......? Thanks again! Frank |

Selection would be the descriptive areas like Foundation Wall(s) Structure is Concrete Masonry Units.
The Damage would be major cracks in the foundation walls with a picture in the structure page. |
