Well guys, today a had the pleasure of meeting a very nice and experienced home inspector who has used HIP for the past few years. his name is Bob Bockus. (He gave me permission to post his name.)
He was SO helpful! I was like a little kid on a swing and just needed that "first push". Bob is a VERY knowledgeable inspector and a very good teacher. After almost 4 hours, I got out of his hair and drove home. I then spent a couple of hours working on doing a report, trying different things, etc. When I ran into a snag, I persevered and I think I could come up with a good report after some more work. With learning more, I am comming up with some more questions, which I'll write down and post if you don't mind. I want to take some reports I've done in the past with homegauge and re-do them with HIP, before I attempt to do any new reports on them. Once I feel comfortable, I'll be the next new owner of HIP. It will be my "business Christmas present". I know I need to work a bit more on importing photos, as I know there must be an easier way then how I've been doing it. I also have some more questions, but I'll write them down first then post a few of them at a time. thanks again!! Frank D. |

Hey Frank,
I'm glad you had a great time with Bob! That was very nice of him to take you out and around. Regarding photos, watch the animated tutorial on how to Batch Add photos for the quick way to do it! Remember there's no need to delete photos. Post away, we will all be here to answer. |

Well, Bob was nice enough to give me his own custom template he uses.
I tried adding this template, but must have done it a wrong way, and I kinda screwed up my HIP. I foolishly moved my data file I think, so now when I open HIP, no templates come up to choose from. The template screen is blank, and it says I have no templates. They ARE there, but I just think my data file is in the wrong place/order or something. When I open "finder", (on a mac) It shows this; HIP file > Client data, client reports, Data, Home inspector pro(with the little guy), Lib. If you click that data file, you see this; CompanyInfo.eng, Data, Footer.xml, hip.log, Temp. If you click THAT data file, you see all of the templates, including the new one Bob gave me. I'm guessing I just have that data file in the wrong like subgroup or something. Before I mess anything up more, I'll wait for Dominic to fix my mess up. I'll slap my own hand... : Sorry Dominic! No need to be sorry, I messed up my program numerous times and Dominic would bale me out. It should be easy for Dominic to straigten out for you. Have him do a live session with you. You can try going back to your latest template. Sounds like you have a folder in the wrong place. Wish I could help you out!! |

Thanks Dave,
Yes, I think that also. I'm not worried, just don't want to make it tougher for Dominic if I mess with it more. I was surprised at how the program looks the same on either Bob's windows set up and on my Mac. It was quite easy to have Bob do something with the program, and have me do the same thing. One thing I need to learn is how to add a database of Realtors. On the one inspection I'm playing with, under client data (I think) it shows the realtor. If I click on it, it does not seem to let me change that, so for now it shows this one realtor for every home inspection report. Thanks! Frank D. |

Just click on address book, add new agent, do not fill in any info. The agent info should be blank.
You need to add each agent individually, but leave a blank area by doing the above, this way you do not error by having an improper agents name on the report. |
