TOPIC: How to speed up your computer, for free

What is weird is the fact you wouldn't even know the software is running...McAfee slows even a new machine to a crawl when CONSTANT downloading UPDATES...and when scanning you may as well walk away from it, you can't do anything, man am I ever glad I bought the AVG----

McAfee got too big for it's britches. Years ago it was a good program. Then they kept adding and adding and adding. By the time they were done it slowed your computer to a crawl.

Yeah I hear you, I have had McAfee for 5-6 years, seems like the last couple years I thought it was the computers---Wrong--it was the software...everything is fine with AVG.

Dom - you had said the AVG free version was all I needed.  Should I upgrade?

The AVG free version should be plenty for most guys. Dale was already paying for McAfee and was looking for an equivalent package but without slowing his computer down. The paid version adds spyware protection, which I get from a free program called Spybot and it scans emails from outlook which I don't use.

Okay, I have Spybot too.
