TOPIC: A new way for mobile users to collect data

Re: A new way for mobile users to collect data 11 years 8 months ago #52218

I still prefer to add comments at home as pictures take about 50% of tht time.
Right now the cell phone cam is quicker because of no need to wait for zoom pop out.

If we can eliminte all the confirm, save, and pick between gallery or taking a shot options it would be fantastic.
Actually wish I could just stay in camea mode and go to different sections from camera mode.

No matter how I slice it my defect comments are always going to be narritive as here in Chicago
we have many more combinations of issues than other areas which are cookie cutter homes.

Hi Bob

Quote from your last post, "Actually wish I could just stay in camera mode and go to different sections from camera mode."

This sounds like a good way to speed up the report on an android camera.

First "take the picture you want" and then click on the relevant section / subsection and then select the comments.

Maybe this is a lot more difficult from a programming point of view.

That would definatly be a cool way to do it.
Right now you must hunt in text mode then do all the clicks to take a shot.

There is a share option that allows your shots to go into a program such as Dropboc, attachments ,etc built in to Android but guessing reverse would not work as right now the HIP software
activates the shutter.

I think way to go Dom might (fingers crossed) be working on is getting rid of all the unneeded clicking and back tracking.
Honestly have zero need for a gallery option and do not see how anyone could be into that as it would
be used for illustrations perhaps that can be added in on the desktop side.

Why would you take a shot then try and hunt it down in gallery while still on the mobile side ?

In relation to the option to take photos.

Have a dropdown option (which is in development) with the first dropdown automatically defaulting to taking the photo with the camera.
The first dropdown could include taking a photo from the gallery.
Finally, if an option was available immediately after you take a photo so you can edit it, ie. put in an arrow. Therefore cutting back on re-working photos back in the office that can be time consuming.

Most of the report could be almost finished in the field.

Hi Peter,

Editing photos in the field on HIP Mobile is a long way off (you can do this now with a Windows tablet). We're having to work around a lot of limitations on the devices as it is and we don't want to slow things down at this point. As the devices get more powerful we're adding more options.

The new update has a direct to camera option that we're testing out.
