To throw another wrench in the mix Stephen, some people that do the room by room will set the program to drop items with no comment. So areas with no issues don't print.

Ya think? I wonder how many don't know that option exists? The secret is to leave everything there when you generate your final draft for proof reading. ***commentary below*** Once you are sure that all the blank spots are supposed to be blank, then you go back and change it to delete blank items. I have caught myself a couple of times thinking I have done an item in the report only to find no comments. Had I automatically left the "no print" item on, I would never have caught it.
Based on the number of sample reports I have seen with absolutely horrible spelling, improper syntax, no punctuation, or just plain incorrect statements, I am sure there are a large number of inspectors that don't proof read their reports. And some wonder why they get no business from their website. Real simple. If you are stupid enough to put a shoddy sample on your site, you deserve exactly what you get. ??? |

There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh cut grass on a baseball infield, the click of a wooden bat and the taste of a hot dog at a warm sunny daytime double-header.

Agreed. That's the best way to proof reports, with everything turned on.

I need to take a look at a good room by room report format to understand this I think.
I just cannot seem to grasp the concept of doing room by room (other than it is easier to collect data on site as you go). If you have a light fixture problem in the master bedroom, should this deficiency be placed in electrical or should it be placed in "master bedroom"? Do we have subcontractors that specialize in master bedrooms and some and Jack and Jill bedrooms and some with second-floor bedrooms and some with first floor bedrooms? Why do I want a single page per bedroom in my report? When we complete our inspection report we expect somebody to give the report to someone to fix things. So in room by room, do we have to give the electrician a page for every room that has an electrical issue (also numerous other issues that are not part of his purview).? If nothing else it seems like a waste of paper! I use a modified version by setting up a section called "interior" and a tab called "master bedroom, first-floor bedroom, second-floor bedroom etc.". I'm in the process of trying to do on-site inspection reports like the rest the you guys using my phone/tablet and I'm trying to develop the best process for that on-site application. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is there a way to collect electrical data room by room and have it print out an electrical section? |

System by system is what I still use with Bathrooms and Kitchens as separate (Hybrid)
Must admit I often cheat and place exterior lights in exterior if for no other reason than they seem to fit well in the exterior/deck section for instance however notice less of that in my reports as only system by system makes sense. Picture caption drop downs take care of any location doubt. Interesting thing about mobile if anyone has tried this yet is you can have 100 specific sections and search as you type helps find them immediately. |

Is there a way to edit the template with my phone or does it have to be edited on the desktop? I am new to HIP and would like to know if this can be done on the fly? For example, how do I delete "pool" with my phone? If it can be done please tell me how... Thanks!
