I'm talking about having the template setup so that I enter the data in a manner that follows my routine.
I start out side, so my data collection template would have exterior items, hvac items, electrical items, and plumbing items. When I entered the data for the items they would populate into the hvac section, plumbing section, electrical section or remain at the exterior section. When we print a report we have the ability to arrange the order the sections for printing, so I'm thinking something along these lines on a more micro level. Like now, I have hose bibs in my exterior section, but I would rather have them in the plumbing section but I don't want to click over to plumbing just for hose bibs. So it would be a way to have a template that says just because I enter data here I still want it to show up there. I don't think this would duplicate content. Hopefully I'm not being as clear as mud |

Hmm, okay so that could work if you don't have multiple sections mapping into one.

If I understand correctly what Troy wants is that all items that are related to certain systems, such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc. be described in one section regardless of where they are in fact locating. So for example, I have electrical tab in my Exterior section that describes the condition of electrical receptacles, lights, wires that are located outside of the house. Troy wants all this to be in electrical section even though he enters the information about them in Exterior section. Is that correct, Troy?

Yes. When I enter information about the condenser on the outside I want it to post to the HVAC section, but still be at the exterior on my data collection template. Same for lighting, hose bibs etc...

This would be nice but in this case the software needs somehow understand what item you are talking about and where it belongs. Dunno if this is duable since the item is physically located in one place but belongs to a different system.

That's what I was wondering. If somehow you could setup a data collection template one way, but specify where in the report you want that section to end up in the report.
It would still be a system template but where the systems overlap you could specify which system in the final report you want different sections to be. |
