Camera specs. 14 years 8 months ago #29462

I am looking at buying a new digital camera. I know many of you have nice cameras and all, but I am not interested in which camera you use or how many mega pixels you have. I want to know what is the optimal number of mega pixels? At what point do you get to the point of diminishing returns? I am sure it depends on the resolution of the monitor that you are using. But, there must be an average out there.

The camera I am looking at is 12MP and 5x zoom. I think it will be fine, I am just curious about when it becomes too much camera.

I also like the camera Bob Elliott has. You can use MS paint to write on the images, as you take them. I think that is a great feature, I just don't recall the name of the camera. It was either a Sony or Nikon I think. Bob, which is it?

Nothing over 2 megapixels matters for your report. The program shrinks all photos down to 400 pixels wide. What's more important is a great OPTICAL zoom (digital can be done in software and diminishes quality quickly). If you buy a 3 or 5 megapixel to have for reference that's fine. If you're buying a 12, I would tell you to take the photos at a low setting.

By low setting you mean the quality setting I assume? What about for PP presentations? Or other applications beside for the report?

What is considered great optical zoom?

Do you know which camera Bob has?

10x is awesome optical. I think the most I've seen is an Olympus with 18x. With this you can see the nail on a 3rd story shingle roof from the ground without a problem.

OK well, without breaking the bank Dom.;) Is 5 x optical good? I would do 1o but I think they want too much $$ for them.

Which one is it that Bob has Dominic?

I forget what Bob's using. 5x is fine. I'm just saying if you can get less megapixels and more zoom, go for the zoom!
