TOPIC: HIP mobile vs tablet

Re: HIP mobile vs tablet 11 years 2 months ago #54695

If I get a windows tablet, how would I load the program? Do I copy it from my MAC or do you send it to me? Bob, I do not know about the blend feature, I don't think it is ready in the MAC version yet.

How is it going Bob? I have been pretty busy so I have missed the last few meetings.

You'd just install HIP Windows then copy your templates & docs over.

OK, I think I could do that. You still think the HP slate 2 is the best tablet? I looked at the Surface, but I don't want the RT and the PRO is too expensive. Acer, Asus, Lenovo and others all seem the same. I can DL the windows version from your site correct?

Yes, you can. The Pro is better than the Slate 2, but the Slate works.

Mike, I have a slate 2 which has quickly become an expensive paper weight.
The issues I have:
1. Machine is sssslllloooowwww!!!! I had a windows Millenium machine that was faster.
2. I have to keep rotating the tablet from portrait to landscape mode to complete any given task. Certain  buttons would not work in portrait mode that would work in landscape mode and vice-versa.
3. Did I mention the overall speed!  ;D
4. Battery life is poor.

I had a CTL 2go also which I stopped using after about a month, gust plain garbage!

I really like the Android set up. I have a Samsung Galaxy 2 7" which I put a Gumdrop case on and I drag it EVERYWHERE! The case is rugged.
1. Price of machine is better
2.Machine is faster
3.Pictures are slotted right away, Although quality is limited, pictures are not bad. Even the best pictures look bad when you print them out.
4.HIP app set up is pretty good.

Android issues I have had:

1.Voice recognition is not what its cracked up to be. I have tried the stock keyboard, Swift Keys and Swype and I guess none can handle my "Jersey Accent" because all three stink with voice recog.
2. Memory issues with Android. I have had the machine freeze twice with inspections that have lots of photos. Thank goodness I carry a second camera, because I have had to retake lost pics during these freeze-ups.

Still the most reliable set-up is the laptop on the Kitchen counter which is what I use most often. I will keep trying the tablet method until I can find a reliable equipment set-up that works 100% of the time. So far, The Samsung Galaxy although far from perfect, seems to be the best option I have tried.

Hey Mike
Been busy as well and have also missed the last few meetings which is not unusual in summertime.

Even with any freeze issues the mobile is better with the app than using a full computer on site in my opinion.
Yes been using the Android camera off and on but never have completed more than half at a time because I simply
am not comfortable with being distracted away from my primary function of observation which data entry will do.

Try watching a TV show and doing a report or talking on the phone while you type and you will understand where I'm coming from.

The Android camera is at the point where it is working pretty well and the picture quality is much better than it had been.

Drew if you are following this make sure to try out the beta updates if you have not as they are more stable.
I have the freeze issue every 50 pictures or so and simply do a reset to get back to normal.

The text comments never have that issue for me but then I am not really doing that as pics act as my notes for the most part.
