Hello all,
Somehow I would like to incorporate all of the Wisconsin SOP into my default template. Just in case you get sued everything is documented. I was thinking of having many of the common things already in the report - maybe a section of check list items on each page... Any suggestion on the best way to go about this? My main reason for buying this program was to get my reports out faster but still deliver a quality product to my client. I want to get the most out of HIP. Thank you for our help Have a great day! mk |

Take a look at this post from a few years ago by David Andersen. I have adopted a similar report style with my State SOP at the beginning of every section. I have also included portions of the ASHI SOP which clarify what inspectors are NOT required to do. I do not spend much time going beyond the SOP into fillers like endless lists of materials. It is liberating in a way.

Every template will not fit for every state or organization. What it comes down to is you take a full day (or more if needed) away from inspecting, away from tv, away from walking the dog and put your template together. It will surely evolve over time but in the beginning, you must treat this like a profession and not try and piece meal a report template together that someone else worked on. You are not them and the chances that your inspecting technique or language usage is the same is also slim to none.
That is the great thing about HIP. It doesn't take much time to put together a template that is based on your own, unique styling. Some people incorporate their state SOP into the report. I choose to have a link in my report to my State SOP that is on my website. Drive them to your own website, not to the state, not somewhere else. Good luck. Take the time, write your template the way you inspect. |

There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh cut grass on a baseball infield, the click of a wooden bat and the taste of a hot dog at a warm sunny daytime double-header.

Thank you for the info. For some reason I can't open the link.
At the very least I won't all of the State SOP in my report checked or not checked and why. I don't have a bunch of disclaimers in my report but I do make sure my bases are covered (all SOP done). So far so good. |

Hello,
I'm not looking to put a copy of the State Standards in my report. I just wanted to make sure all of the standards were listed that I checked (inspected, viewed...). If I couldn't observe a standard then have a drop down to select the reason why... I'm really not concerned about my client having a copy of the state standards. I just won't to make sure if I ever do have to testify in court everything is documented per State standards. Thanks all |

In that case you would probably add a tab with one selection panel as the first tab in each section and it would have one item in that selection panel. When you double click on that item to open it you could put (Using Illinois SOP)
When, pursuant to the written agreement with a client, the interior is inspected, the home inspector shall: 1) Inspect the walls, [SOP Y/N List] ceilings, [SOP Y/N List] and floors;, [SOP Y/N List] the steps, [SOP Y/N List] stairways, [SOP Y/N List] Etc., etc. you get the idea. Then your list[SOP Y/N List] would have maybe: Inspected, Not Visible, Not Present, N/A, etc. in it and it could be used for all of them. |
