Hey guys, if a water heater is located in a garage, does it have to be in a closet?

I don't believe so John, but does need to be elevated if ignition source is within 18 inches of the garage floor and should have a crash barrier if it is susceptible to physical damage from vehicles.  Water lines should be insulated.

Okay thanks, that's what I told them.  But I didn't think of the safety bollard.

One other thing John, if it is gas, make sure it is vented properly. I see a few of these on vacation properties in my area, and most are not properly vented. Then you get he reply of, well it's only in the garage.
