Matt, I've had a few guys ask about the $155 : "Upgrade to 3 Year Complete Care Accidental Damage Coverage." I'm assuming this includes if the guys drop the tablet (even if it's off a balcony) while doing the inspection and that they'll get theirs replaced for up to 3 years?

Yes, the Total Care warranty does cover accidents, such as those that you have mentioned. There are some limitations of course, as there are with any kind of warranty. I will outline the coverage below:
Covered: Liquid spills on or in unit Drops, falls, and other collisions Electrical surge Damaged or broken LCD due to a drop or fall Accidental breakage (multiple pieces) Not covered: Intentional damage Damaged in fire Lost or stolen unit Normal wear that does not affect system performance Ideally, it is a good option if you are dragging the unit around with you quite a bit. Just to give you an idea, the Total Care warranty option has a cost of $155. On the previous model of Convertible Classmate, and LCD repair would run typically $189 just for the screen to be replaced. If there was any other damage to the unit due to the drop to things like the hinge, shell plastic, etc., it was additional. I manage our non-warranty repair department as well, and we probably do between 15-25 LCD replacements per month due to screens getting shattered. The one limitation of this warranty option to keep in mind is that it covers ONE major replacement or major repair to the unit that is caused by physical damage. Major repairs are considered screen replacements, replacement of unit due to breakage into multiple pieces, or replacement or repair of unit for motherboard related issues that are caused by physical damage. If keys on the keyboard get pulled off or things like that, we do not consider that major, and continue to repair it. In any case, you get the standard parts and labor warranty for three years, regardless of whether the unit has been replaced due to physical damage. Basically, if you break the screen more than once, break the motherboard due to physical damage more than once, or any combination of these two types of damage that would result in a major repair or replacement more than once, you would need to pay for the second repair. All other benefits of the plan stay intact. Hopefully that clears up any questions you guys might have. If there are more, please let me know PS - I noticed a package was delivered to you today Dominic Had a chance to open it yet? |
