Travis, my base report has my most used graphics preloaded with captions already. You can batch add pics to the base report, or since I use my phone to do inspection all my pics have been slotted and captioned during the inspection.
The template used in HIP mobile has the narratives that are already selected in the base report, but right now I have to remember which ones I have selected already which is why I want to be able to upload a preselected template to HIP mobile. If you build a good caption library and have a device like a phone or a tablet you can take pics with it really speeds up the process. You find issue, goto the section of the report and select or type a narrative, take pic, select caption, and move on through the inspection. The links in my report are clickable for the client and goto to pages on my website. |

Thank you. I have not brought myself to use my phone for entire inspection. My phone makes me crazy some days as it is. I can not imagine how it would act with all of the data/pics used. I understand the ease of placing everything. I am not sure I was happy with the pictures either. Can you edit the pictures once you are back at the laptop? (arrows, circles, etc.) Maybe I will need to go back and revisit.
Just so I understand you completely...when you say "Base Report" you are talking about the merge file, correct? Base Report = file you merge with to the one you conducted on HIP mobile once back to the lap top. I see what you mean about having to remember the ones already selected on the Base File. I think my habit would be to click it in the field not trusting that it was on the Base file. Question : lets say your Base File has "Missing GFCI receptacles..." always selected. You accidently select that narrative on HIP Mobile while in the field. (now selected in both areas). You then merge the base with your completed inspection. What happens to the Narrative "Missing GFCI receptacles..."? Is it selected or since you selected it in both areas does it cancel each other out? 2nd Question : Why not remove those Narratives always selected on the Base File from the template you upload to your HIP mobile for inspecting? That way it is not an option to select twice and I am sure less scrolling on the phone / tablet. Thanks for your help! I will do another trial run with the phone. Do emails, texts, phone calls coming in not mess you up during the inspection? Have a great day...off to a 10:00 a.m. Saturday appt! |

I just need to type to you guys as today had to be the worst home I have inspected in my 10 years. :'(
I took 175 pics. What a POS. Glad for my buyers they found out now. I am doing fairly well on report. Have 2 hours into it with 1 hour to go. Troy & others how do you handle the POS when inspecting onsite & mobile? I would still be at this inspection on site. |

To answer the question you should take pics with captions or notate with text If not showing and tell the location then make the comment various locations.
That way you are covered when a contractor is recommended to correct the issues. No reason to doc every single instance. |

IMVHO, it should take around 20 min to 1 hour to complete a report, if you are inputting most of the data onsite. I do not merge photos until I get back to my office, but I have 95% of the report already in my iPad when I upload it to my main computer to finish it. ? Once we have the ability to fill in the clients name, etc and upload to our mobile devices it will even be quicker. ? It is very easy with HIP to use a bunch of photos, even if you really do not need them. ? If you are finding that it is taking you a long time to complete a report, try reducing the number of photos. ? A leaking faucet, a dirty air filter or a loose wall outlet do not really need photos. A crack in the brick veneer needs a photo, a wet crawlspace needs a photo...
Just my opinion if you want to try and speed things up.. |
