Which camera are you using right now Bill? It might make it easier to compare the specs to help you see if it's worth it.

I have the B400, but I have an option to upgrade to the P640 for a few dollars, and am seriously looking into getting this rig

Bill, what type of work do you need it for and why are you considering the upgrade?
I have used the B400 and the P660 (which is a little more sensitive and has GPS). The P660 is an awesome camera! I wish I was rich enough to go that route! The size of the camera is the greatest disadvantage (depending on what you're using it for). I like the pivoting lens and dimensions of the B400 when working in tight spaces (electrical/mechanical rooms). |

I am getting more into commercial inspections so the interchangable lens with the 400 is great, and fusion is the bomb.
The thing is I am seriously looking at doing more in the IR field, utilities, power lines, stations, building applications IAQ and the basics, moisture, structure I really like the voice notes and sketch pad. the jump is another 10k for me and I want to know if others are using these or am i kinda forging alone in this market as others are lagging behind , like you say not being rich enough to move up. I have an opportunity to to expand my services but also expand the quality of report as well. so i am looking for advice from IR's that are doing good and have valid input, those that are looking to get in won't have the answers I am looking for. I am already busy with what I have, B cam SD, B400 but I can trade in my 400 and upgrade to the P640 for about 10k. so I will loose nothing on my 400. hope this gives you some added insight on my quandry |

I know exactly where you're coming from. I did the same as you are considering to get me to the 360 x 240 range. It is becoming more and more obsolete as I use it and I understand where you're coming from.
I am expanding my services more along the lines of building performance and am investing in other equipment which will enhance the IR equipment that I have now as well as enable me to perform much more detailed and advanced diagnostics to " fix people's problems". I have been doing a significant amount of infrared work and could easily justify the upgrade, but this economy has me a little bit on edge (if you know what I mean). At any rate, you can make do with what you have, however what you're looking at really puts icing on the cake and if you feel the timing is right for you. There really is no comparison between the two cameras! Just a few more days in this tax year to reduce your tax base if you have $10,000 kicking around! |
