I agree Tim. I've definitely noticed that the agent vs inspector relationship greatly depends on the inspectors personality. If you approach things right you can have many agents referring you all the time even if you report honestly. I've seen many inspectors who do this, and do it well. I've looked at their reports and even though they rip a place apart

That being said everyone will come across agents that will not be cooperative no matter what and try to dictate what should be on your report. I tend to hear less inspectors in California complaining about the agents. I think part of that might be the litigious nature of the state that many agents realize the inspectors protect them as well

I'm getting ready to ride both sides of this fence.  I'm in school to get my real estate lic.  I hope this move is a win win for me.  It will give me another income source, I will get to see and learn the Realtor side of things, and I hope this can be a marketing tool for both sides, inspections and real estate.

How many Realtors can say they are a licensed home inspector?  And how many home inspectors get to mingle behind the scenes with Realtors?

Wow, talk about a potential conflict of interest.
What will your real estate clients expect from you, when you disclose being a home inspector will you real estate clients expect that you have all ready completed a home inspection on the property.

I will just have to explain my role to them and get it in writing.

The HI school that we are starting in New Jersey has ten students enrolled for the first semester, six of the are RE agents jumping ship. Most of the students so far are from state unemployment referrals.
