TOPIC: Considering going HIP Mobile - Android Phone

Considering going HIP Mobile - Android Phone 10 years 6 months ago #57836

I am considering going with HIP Mobile with my Android Phone but have a few questions. I currently use an iPad and take pictures with a Cannon. I do not like the picture quality that comes from the iPad. I am worried the Droid phone might have the same issue. I do like however the option of getting the picture slotting and captions complete before I upload to the cloud to complete on the desktop. I take a lot of pictures. Can the phone handle it? I am thinking I will upgrade phones soon and keep my current Droid and use it only for inspections (deleting all apps other than HIP Mobile). I do not think I need "service" to the phone to use HIP Mobile, and only using wifi when I am home to upload to the cloud.
I am a section to section guy (have to be with the Texas Template) so there is a lot of back forth through sections. Imagine standing on the right side of the home...the sections I might have to toggle through could be many. i.e. Gas meter, A/C condensing unit, main water shut off, crack in brick, foundation, gutter issue, drainage issue, window issue, fence issue, etc. That is a lot of sections to toggle through selecting call outs, taking pictures, choosing captions, etc.

I tested the HIP Mobile with my phone this morning.

One thing I noticed with my test today is that the first word I typed would not automatically select "uppercase" for the first letter. This was throughout the HIP Mobile, not just captions. I a Droid with Kii keyboard.
Questions:
Favorite Camera app when using HIP mobile on the phone?
Favorite Keyboard app when on HIP mobile phone?
Do you have to have service (wifi or 4g, etc) when using the phone HIP Mobile or is it just like the iPad?
What about when a phone call comes in or email, etc. Does it knock you out of HIP Mobile and save?
How many pictures can HIP Mobile handle?
The pictures that were taken with the phone and slotted were smaller than the pictures taken with the Cannon camera. Can I fix this?

Default app is now the best on new phones or ZoomFx

Definitely switch to Swift Keys. First letter is always upper case.

Wifi is all you need, just like iPad

It just minimizes the app.

HIP Mobile handles as many pics as your phone can handle. Different phones will have different limits but I've seen guys take hundreds.

Smaller how? I'd need to see the image difference.

Which iPad do you have by the way?

Thank you for the quick response.

Does the "use old phone for HIP only" make sense to you. I wouldn't have service to the phone but I think I can use the phone for HIP and then upload to the cloud using our home wifi or Starbucks, etc. We do for my sons iPhone at least. No service plan but certain apps work at our home on the home wifi. I would basically get the report template ready to go at home before leaving, go to the job and conduct the inspection, then come home and upload to the cloud to finish on the desktop.

I attached the "Test" report generated. There is not a lot selected but if you look under <structure><roof covering> and <structure><windows> you will see the picture size difference between the photo taken with Phone camera and two pictures taken with cannon. These pictures were just thrown in to run a quick test.

Hmmm...not sure which one it is. iPad 16gb running the 7.1.1 update.

It depends on how old the phone is. What is it?

The shorter picture is taken as a widescreen 16:9 format. The square are 4:3 normal shots. Set all your devices to 4:3 to get much better pics!

Okay, will do.

Droid Razr HD. Maybe a year old. My upgrade is coming in November. Will probable move to the HTC ONE. I can keep this Razr and just use it for inspecting purposes. As long as it will pick wifi and send templates/reports through HIP cloud.

Not sure why it wouldn't. We have an old iPhone for our son that does not have a service plan but can still pick up Pinterest, skype, etc. through wifi. He just can't call, receive calls, send texts, etc.

The Razr should work perfectly fine.
