Your software would continuously crash on my office pc and fail to launch
I uninstalled it and reinstalled it ... it deleted my client reports and all my templates that I have created and spent 100 hrs tweaking ... I have no reports to use to recreate my main template which was a mater piece and all my narritives , custom well water septic, templates , radon templates etc that I had created are gone.. Do you think I'm major league pissed off right now ?? I have two reports to do now and 2 inspections lined up tomorrow I'm sitting here and don't have my license to even get my crap software licensed to do this |

Kevin if you uninstall any software the files in it always uninstall as well.
You could have extracted what you want to save. HIP desktop is stored locally and not in a cloud. HIP does not ever cause a computer to crash. I have had it at least 7 years now and never lost anything. |

Arghhh
I'm going to bed be up in 6 hrs with a pot of coffee to try and get a grip on this disaster his software stopped launching and would just crash, not my operating system. A window would pop up .....after it timed out trying to launch.. I'm sick to my stomach about this I've just lost all my documents that I had custom created for my template in word. everything .. I feel the stuff you create should not be deleted in an uninstall look at your favorites in firefox browser for example.. you reinstall a new version it does not delete these type of files. This is so big a hit that the software should be loaded with warnings that this will happen.. I'm literally at square one... I'm about to toss HIP into the trash ,,,,I had such a killer template and report created... I'm going to bed,,,sick to my stomach.. |

Kevin you can usually recover deleted files.
The computer has it stored somewhere. Not sure why you would blame the software for something you did. You should have asked for help before going Nuke. Your computer has many software programs containing files that would disappear if you delete them besides HIP. You need to learn to back up. You should have the program files saved on the cloud on your own. Google Gears,Dropbox,Sugar Sync, aux hard drive, laptop,to name a few. These are things you are responsible for on your own. Do you not own any of the above ? What about music,Documents,Taxes, etc ? |

Kevin, wow! I'm seriously sorry you had issues but coming on here and cussing is not appropriate and I'll have to delete this thread after you get this resolved as I can't have this on Google with the language. I'll delete some of the extra posts now as it seems you have a dozen here right now.
Microsoft REQUIRES that all files that HIP uses MUST be uninstalled for us to be Microsoft Certified. We don't have a choice on that as we need the certified part to keep Internet Explorer from balking and warning people when they download the software. As you mentioned, we warn everyone, in every update email to NEVER uninstall HIP because of this. You have no backup files? This is something that you should obviously do often. You have templates in the cloud I'm assuming since you use HIP Mobile. Because of this you have copies of your templates in the cloud that can be reloaded. Just download an inspection to HIP, open it and then click Save Template. Now BEFORE doing any of this, don't do anything else until you call into our office after 9am PST (I'm at an airport right now getting ready to fly back from the ASHI conference in Nashville so I can't help right now). He can help you use a hidden feature in Windows that can sometimes restore deleted files. It'll be a bit harder since you deleted the entire HIP directory, but he can try. As far as HIP crashing, that's not HIP's fault. With thousands of inspectors using HIP we would definitely know if there was a problem with the desktop version crashing all the time. Guys would be on the forums here going nuts. You have a few possible issues going on. You could have an overzealous virus scan program that's locking up the loading, memory or Windows issues. More than likely though your computer crashed or you shutdown your machine at some point while you were working on HIP and it corrupted one of the HIP files. You would juts need to run the latest update and it would automatically repair most corrupt files. |

I back up all files to a external drive many times when I'm building a template and/or report.
As with all files you care about...BACK THEM UP. You can always use a recovery program, but they ain't 100%.. I have used Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery a few time and it save my butt when I had a hard drive go bad. www.stellarinfo.com/disk-recovery.htm |
