I'm in the "Bob" camp. I have almost as many selection panels as damage panel. Don't use damage panel unless you need them. It also requires an additional "Click".
My first whole Section, "General Conditions" is all selection panels. |

Exactly selection panels save you a click.

Saves you a click but gives you no options for making a one time change. Say you want to input a quick change to a material or whatever you have in your selection panel, if you do it in a selection panel and then save your template due to another addition somewhere else in your report, it saves the quick change you made in the selection panel. So next time you open the template, the quick change comment you made is now there even though you may never use it again.
If you use the damage panel format, you can put it in black or red if appropriate. Black does not show in summary, red of course, does. And it can be changed or modified without ever affecting the template. |

There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh cut grass on a baseball infield, the click of a wooden bat and the taste of a hot dog at a warm sunny daytime double-header.

The whole idea behind selection panels is they are for material comments Stephen.
If you need changes then you need to spend time on setting them up. They allow drop downs for lists as you know so set them up. Not sure what the issue here is as you can set up your template without them and double click the entire report if you wish. Personally I prefer faster. |

HIP gives you the flexibility.... That's what's great about it. I prefer faster...and selection panels work great for me. However, if you want all damage panels you have that option

Found the contributions to this thread to be excellent.
In summary, I withdraw my criticism in reference to the "Selection Panel" (even though I would still like the option to add RED comments to same). My main concern primarily arises from the fact that I did not appreciate the finer points of the software, as a new user. In setting up my new templates I did not understand the entire functionality of Selection and Damage Panels and mistakenly selected the "Selected Panel" instead of the "Damage Panel" not fully understanding or appreciating the benefits of both. In summary, for new users of the software I would suggest that "Selection Panel" should be used in as far as possible for "YES and NO" answers, that do not need further elaboration. Peter |
