Sometimes I put a photo in a report with an arrow and I describe a defect. Then when I get to the section in the report where you check the box and make a comment I add the same comment. It seems redundant. I'm just wondering how some of the rest of you handle this. i.e. You put a photo of a faucet hose bib with a missing handle, then when you get to Exterior Areas under Exterior Faucet Condition you check Fair or Poor or whatever, do you also comment there about the faucet again after you already put it in the photo?

If you're using canned comments, make them general for all applications concerning that issue.
When you get to the photographs make it specific for that inspection. (Such as description of item with location ). "Missing hose valve handle on the north side of the house". Don't duplicate. If you don't require a summary, you can use a photograph caption as a standalone. If you do require a summary you can document in the photograph and make a short blurb in the red section that will hit the summary page. |

Yes, I agree that photo captions are redundant, but on the other-hand photo don't appear in the summary, so that the summary lacks value(HINT" maybe links to pictures are needed!).
Here is how I use HIP.... which leads to a suggestion that I believe has merit and will make life easier for all of us. I do an inspection and my own reports, so I don't need to do a lot of notes at the inspection. Notes for me are typically facts that don't lend themselves to pictures(like age of heaters, models, un-viewable details). I take a minimum of 80 pictures for a home in good condition, and over 200 for a 'fixer'. I caption my pictures first when starting the report. This reminds me of the details for the report and as I do the narratives and comments in the panels, I make sure that I make entries wherever I have selected a picture. But, in this method, we are always starting a caption from scratch. If prompted comments were available like 'Hose bib is missing on the ______", then the report process would be easier. The descriptive 'meat' of the comment would always be at the end of the sentence. Maybe, there could be a separate flag for caption(able) comments. Certain comments that are more like improvements don't lend themselves to being used as a caption. Other comments 'missing outlet cover at...., 'broken glass at....', or 'leaking pipe at....". Anyone else who has dreaded spending an hour on pictures.... and wished that they could shorten that process time???? |

I caption at the end.
I find that I duplicate too much the other way. Slot the picture to which section you want it to go to before you do anything with the report. As you go through the report sections, photos will show up and you can elect your narrative in that section. Then if you want to add a photo caption you can make it short and to the point as you already covered it in the body of the report. In many cases you need no caption. Just a picture with an arrow or something. If you took pictures for note taking purposes, you can delete those or un-slot them when your done with the report. |

Funny, I just finished this feature last night Comments in your list of narratives with Caption in the front will always show up in the photo section. They don't need to be selected as black/red.
