Java7 installed automatically, i think with McAfee update.
When I saved the inspection I also saved the template - which of course was empty. So when I reopened the inspection to finish the report this morning, there was nothing there other than the client's info. I started the report anew again 1/2 hour ago and saved it over the existing file, so I don't think I can recover anything anymore. So would it have saved the data if there was no template? As I said, when I opened the inspection this morning there was only bare bone template with no categories, so I don't think anything was really saved last night. I deleted J7, opened the previous job and saved the template. So I am back in business, just have to do the whole last job over |

I thought it updated the system before I started and the template opened normally. My last McAfee scan ran before I started the inspection. The issue arose on the saving of the inspection at the end. During the process I saved the template several times and had no problems, but I did take a break for an hour or so, before closing the program down. So it is possible that it updated Java in that period and I might even have given OK to it - I was working on other things and was somewhat distracted. I uninstalled J7 without logging the installation time. In any case Java7 update was initiated automatically. At the end I saved to client data on closing down the system - thinking it was saved properly.

Ugh. Okay, it must have installed when you turned it off for a break. I'll have to look and see if McAfee is pushing that update. I hope not as that will cause problems for some of our users. I've already worked around Java's bug in HIP 3.0 but obviously it'll be awhile before everyone updates.

Yeah, McAfee is the pits. Still not sure why it would force a java update though.

I had three Java updates in the last two weeks. None of them were for Java 7. Last one was for 6.0.29.
I suspect John has his preferences set to "Install Updates Automatically (Recommended)". Big mistake as far as I am concerned. On Win7, choose this option... "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them" then whenever a download shows up, like Jave 7 or IE9 or other... you can "Hide" the update and it will never be shown again unless you go back in and "Unhide" it. Just remember to check for updates and install them frequently. Jeff |
