TOPIC: Dragon Speech Recognition

Re: Dragon Speech Recognition 12 years 7 months ago #47995

Everything that I have read about Dragon on MACS has not been positive. I don't think they put as much time into it because the market is so PC oriented. But, I wish they would make it better for MAC.

I also use Dragon. I'm using it right now to dictate this comment. It didn't always play nice with HIP until I updated my Java.  Now it works sweet. I have my reporting system pretty dialed in now so I don't generally use Dragon to create my reports.
I do my reports back in the office, not on site.  In fact these days, I often don't even take out the computer on the job site.
Just lots of pictures as "visual notes" and a few written notes about critical items.

Where it really shines for me is in building new templates.  I started building a new template for mobile/modular housing inspections this morning and it's almost done thanks to using Dragon.  I started with a blank template and build it from scratch.

One nice thing about it is that it's a much better speller than I am.  It actually spells the words properly and I spend less time going back fixing my mistakes. ::) I can't type "teh" or "adn" to save my life. Very hard to untrained my fingers when my brain is running far ahead of my hands. :-[

Note: Dragon can be a resource hog and will drag down the performance on a marginal machine.  You really need a computer with some horsepower for it to keep up and be effective.  I'm currently running it on a 3.2 GHz dual core with 3 GB of RAM and it works very well with absolutely no lag.
