TOPIC: why the IP address in the authorization form?

Twice now, I've had a client call and ask why I need their IP address for their electronic signature on the authorization? I tell them it's automatic, and it won't hurt anything, that it prevents scams and hackers from getting to the server. I have know idea if this is an accurate explanation, but it sounded good as I was saying it. Should I be telling them something else? I think they are concerned that they are somehow opening themselves up to spam, junk, or hackers.

It helps make the electronic signature more legitimate and harder for them to contest later. ALL websites can read people's IP address no matter what, you're just showing theirs. Tell them to go to Whatismyip.com and they can see it all day long. This is to protect you as it shows you went that extra step to verify who they are.
