TOPIC: I'm really struggling with this!

I'm really struggling with this! 15 years 1 week ago #25106

This web hosting is really driving me nuts!

When I edit pages, they don't come out the same way they look in the edit pane.  Spacing changes, fonts change, etc.

My website does not look the same as the template, the info is much smaller on my site, the font of the left block is smaller.

Does everyone struggle with this or am I missing something?  Does it matter if I use Mozilla vs. Internet Explorer?

I responded via email before seeing this. Guys usually find the browser they don't normally use is better as the one they use often has plugins which can conflict. For reference for others, here was my response:

IE Caches pages more which describes about everything your experiencing. Whenever you have something not showing like a menu or edit tab it means your browser is pulling up an old version of the page. Right click on the page, hold the shift key and click refresh. That forces the page to get the most current version off the internet. Otherwise browsers store pages for awhile to try and speed up your browsing experience. Firefox caches too but not as much as IE which has gone overboard since IE7.

Is there a better way?  Can you set the browser to not Cache?

You can disable your cache but that will actually make the editor and images download every time you load a page which will slow things way down. It's best just to right click and shift-refresh.

I saw your home page alignment issue. It's best to create a table with 3 columns and leave the first blank, or 2 columns and set the width of the table and right align it.

Joe, I have four sites with Dominic and find them actually pretty easy to work with. I am no computer wiz by any means, and I am sure that Dominic has a dart board in his office with my picture on it for whenever I email him. ;D

There are a few things that I have found out that are almost cure alls for the page editors in the websites.
1. Never copy and paste text directly into the site. Always paste into Notepad on your PC first. This strips the text of any unnecessary HTML which will have you scratching your head if you do not do this step.

2. Fire Fox is a tough browser to create pages with until you get used to it. Whenever you hit a paragraph break the page "Jumps" on you. Nothing bad happens, it's just a nuisance that we have all learned to deal with. IE is okay,  but you have to clear your cache often. shift>refresh. You do not have to do it as often in FireFox.

3. Take the time to look at the tutorials that are available to you. They really do help. I often catch myself emailing for help, or posting a rant here, only to find the answer in another post or a tutorial.

If I can be of any help to you, I usually patrol these boards every morning at around 4:00 am Eastern Time. (that's when I can work without the kids) and throughout the day. I and there are several who I know are willing to jump in and help. That's the way it works around here. :)

Don't get frustrated, if I can do it anyone can.

Joe,
Just a little feedback from one of Doms customers.
I tried several other report writing software as well as looked into several hosts for my web site I created using Dom's templates. I too had (have) problems here and there setting things up and making them look right. I work and work on it until I have to contact Dom who is almost always there and ready to help you out.
The price may seem a little high, however if you add all the help Dom gives you at all hours, one job a month pays for hosting fee and then some.
You will not get that from any other software or hosting providers!
Needless to say, I still have alot of fine tuning to do on my site yet it comes up high in search engines and I get alot of jobs from just the web.
Just take your time, study other places for web design to get the language familiar, listen to Dom and everything will be fine.

Good Luck!
