TOPIC: TIPS and TRICKS

Re: TIPS and TRICKS 10 years 7 months ago #57617

I am somewhat content with my data entry layout using HIP desktop.

However the more I use HIP mobile, what I am finding (for any section that has a large number of entries) whats good for HIP desktop is not necessarily good for HIP mobile.

For example (in HIP Desktop) under my "Roof Coverings" sections I have my Selection and Damage Panels dealing with all types of materials used in old to new properties from townhouses to apartments. I have all defects broken down into roof material defects found in old period properties, to conservatories, to modern pitched roof houses, to flat roofs to apartment complexes.

The system I have setup in HIP Desktop works fine when I am finding the comments / materials while using HIP desktop. However this system designed for HIP desktop is not user friendly when I try to efficiently find this information using HIP mobile, even when using the Search feature. What I find works better using HIP Mobile is to take the same information and substantially reduce it by dividing the "Roof Covering" section into separate sections so the generic "Roof Coverings" section will be broken down into "Roof Coverings for Period Properties", "Roof Coverings for Standard Properties", "Roof Coverings for Apartment Blocks", "Roof Coverings for Flat Roof Properties", etc.  This certainly adds more sections within the report but makes data entry much easier on a small android screen.

This takes more time to setup and probably makes absolutely no sense for users familiar and experienced with HIP Desktop. (But remember the screen size and data entry system is very different between HIP Desktop and HIP mobile).

I am coming to a realization that what is good for the goose may not be good for the gander and this mindset is helping me design a different template setup for report gathering using a small tablet than what I would have designed if using a Desktop.

In summary, same information in templates, same properties being inspected, but a different template layout to cater for the smaller screen size and data entry method.

Peter

I would be interested in seeing what you come up with for mobile, I agree it needs to be more direct in a concise manner to easily find.
