TIPS and TRICKS
...or ways to speed up and improve reports. Hoping others will add a few of their own. Just thought we need a good thread here to help one another use HIP to its fullest extent. Let me begin with one of my own. When doing photo edit on desktop you can type the fist letter of a caption to have it insert when you hit enter which automatically opens the next slot. Another good trick I am using right now is to separate comments not just by using notes but by using headings above groups of comments . Simply go to text edit and add note then change text color for the Sub Header It is a nice way to speed up comment searches. EXAMPLE: Issues Loose Missing Rusted Needs Repair Definitions and Tips Test GFCI once a month Storage items limit view No Access Captions North South East West |

TIP
When writing a report make notes of corrections on ways to enhance the next report. Save Template!! I have errors in punctuation. Like a period followed by a comma. Watching the tutorials of HIP gave me a few ideas. Dominic"s notes with commas is great for locations. (watch the tutorial) What version of HIP you using BOB? Troy P gave me a few pointers on LOCATION: I would love to create a HIP reference section and I heard this may be in a future update. |

Hi Dave
I often do the same. EXAMPLE: Under my Ducts and vents tab at photo edit noticed I never placed a caption for return vent. I wrote down to remind myself it needed to be added in and did so today. Not sure what you mean by reference section as I use my Documents files for that ? Pointers on location....can you elaborate ? |

I open a Notepad folder at the beginning of each day and date it accordingly, 7-March.-14
Any change or addition that I believe should be made to my template that I come across during an inspection, I enter it into Notepad with a ==section location comment== as a reminder were to insert it. At the end of each day, I take these comments and update my template. |

Reference would be why many like the Horizon Software.
This way you would have illustrations already in the created reference library. You could designate for example a GFCI illustration as 8F. In report it would say. GFCI did not trip, potential safety issue, recommend corrections by a qualified professional. SEE PHOTO & Reference 8F. I always seem to add the same 20-30 illustrations. I had a report I would save as the current inspection but I would rather update the template from the one I am working on. Tip, when using the Macy merge shift is for a period. Control is for a comma. (no wonder I had commas were I wanted a period) Macy Merge if you forget is the select multiple lines of text and merge into one line. I am still using HIP 3.5.1 |
