TOPIC: Providing an onsite inspector's checklist

I'm sure someone has already thought of this, but here's a way to improve your field checklist so that you catch the tricky important stuff.  Under Options > Item Options, make sure that "Print items even if there are no comments selected" box has been checked.  If you click "Generate Report, it gives you a pdf showing headers for all your sections, which can be used as a basic field checklist.  But you can also make a specific list of things to watch out for (like is there asbestos still in the heating ducts? or pest damage? etc.,) by going to "Edit Template" and on the right making a new section - where the header is itself a checklist of keywords, each with a question mark to prompt you (i.e., ASBESTOS? PESTS?...).  On the job, when you're scrolling down the pdf and see something you missed, you can enter it into a section right then while the pdf stays open.  When you go to send the report and have clicked off the "Print items even if there are no comments selected" box, that prompt-header will disappear (assuming you haven't put any text into the panels meant for the header).

Good idea. You also could just make one item in each section and add comments of things you should check. Then just select those before printing your area ( CTRL-A selects all ). Way to think ahead

Have you created a template with thses features? Or has anyone else created a detailed checklist you are willing to share

Gene, every template has these features. You want to print one out that matches what you use exactly to make inputting data much faster later. Follow the tips to make sure all items are printed. The get it double sided and laminated at kinos.

Yeah, the "don't-miss-this" type checklist can be built into any HIP template.  The program is so flexible that when making things like headers, for example, instead of just entering a word or two, you can add whole sentences.  When you go to look at what you've got, there's your "header" sticking out as an obvious prompt.  Or as mentioned, you could put an entry in each section's pick lines that stands out, or make a list and put it into Documents so that it shows (until you click it off), etc.

As a field checklist, I plan on just making sure I remember to look at the PDF of the template I'm using before leaving the site.  The headers with the keywords will be my prompt.  Printing out a list though is a good idea. 

I haven't gotten my list together yet.  Some of the things I'll probably put in the list is - "asbestos?" (in Exterior and Heating areas) "client concerns?", "pests?", "fungus?", "hazmat?".
