TOPIC: Cracked Disposal

Good find Casey!  I was just on their website as well.  Under the disposal doctor area, one of the questions is weather or not the unit is leaking through the casing.  They must be having problems on some of these.  The in the picture above is a metal casing, but it sounds as though they've had problems with both metal and plastic housings.  It also appears they no longer make the unit that I looked at yesterday.

That looks like a flaw on the inside that caused rusting which made its way through to the outside.  I have never seen that before.

There's about a 2" long hairline crack running through that area of corrosion.  The unit didn't leak when running just water through the disposal.  But soon as the unit is activated a steady drip begins to flow along the crack.

Interior of the unit is clean with no visible corrosion or scaring.  I couldn't see the crack on the inside, but then again the visibility is very limited and I now they're going to change it out anyway...

I have seen that a couple of times Will. Just told them to replace. I never gave it much thought but did think that something metal got in there and caused damage.
