TOPIC: Travel for an Inspection

Re: Travel for an Inspection 15 years 2 months ago #7659

I've performed inspections as far west Kona, Hawaii as far North as Whistler, Canada as far east as Baltimore, Maryland and as far south as Mexico City, Mexico.  On a monthly basis I'm all over the state of California from San Francisco to El Centro...

Will,
Seriously about San Fran and El Centro? I lived near LA for 8 years; that's a heck uv a territory to cover...

It is brutal sometimes.  Late last month I round tripped Sacramento/Orange county twice in four days.  I took an order for two large homes in the hills outside Rancho Cordova.  Before driving back I check my voicemail and emails. By the time I was back in OC, two more inspection orders had called in from the same development.  I got those two from the clients agent on the first two.  If they're big enough jobs I'll jump on Southwest Airlines, rent a car do the job and fly back later that same day.

Anything to make a buck!

I know a local inspector who flies all over like Will, mostly for investors. At that point they pay for travel and time but get someone they trust.

Exactly.  I'm performing an inspection here in Laguna Hills tomorrow AM for one client.  I'll come home, generate the report and head to the airport for my flight to sacramento tomorrow night for an investor client.  I'll inspect two properties in Tracy, CA Sunday for the investor and fly back home late Sunday night. 8)

I think that's close to Greg Scheer.

Investors are great for repeat inspections! Seems like California has a lot of them.

Yes, and the investor is not nearly as emotional about the property.  They're going to tenant occupy the properties and are normally looking for big ticket deficiencies.  It's a business deal and they treat it as such...
