TOPIC: Need help on pricing quote

Thank you all for your help.  After a walk through the property on my way home from another inspection, my price ended up being $1699.00.  It took me 20 minutes just to walk into each room on all three stories on both wings, onto each private balcony / patio, and quickly around the exterior.  The utility room is jammed with the oil fired boiler about the size of a volkswagen, 3 - 200 amp panels, gas furnace in the new wing, 2 additional water heaters and the commercial kitchen.

Unfortunately I did not get the job.  It seems there was another inspector that came in at $850.00.  I know this guy.  Seen his sample report.  Has almost a whole year in the inspection business.  He should rent a room cause he is gonna be there a while.....

Don't worry, after he turns in his report the client will call you for a real inspection.

Dom beat me to it. That scenario is exactly what I eluded to in my post. Looks like you got beat out by the 50% gang also!

Something I have only done once or twice, and only in those situations where I feel it was warranted, was to send the client a "Thank you for considering us" card or email in a couple of days, to keep my info in front of them. Do not use it to market. Make it sincere. Let the subliminal messaging wotk for you.

I have not had any success with it yet, other than one client calling me back with a question (she couldn't get ahold of 'her' inspector). I figure that even if I don't get a call back for a re-do, good Karma goes a long way!

I think there is an old song, "What a difference a day makes".  Well it is a new day.  It seems Mr. Lowball got more than he could handle.  Upon arriving and meeting the clients, he said, "well this should take about 4 hours and you will get a 50 page report".  Not quite the way to start this particular inspection.

2 hours in, after missing numerous items that the client found while trailing Mr. Lowball, a discussion took place between the parties.  RESULT.  Inspector leaves in a huff, cussing at the clients on the way out the door telling them, "You don't have to pay anything, I will take it out of my secretary's salary for booking this thing."  LMAO.

I get the frantic call from Mrs. Client begging me to do the inspection.  We trust you.  I couldn't sleep last night.  The other inspector was a dirtbag that I wouldn't trust with my garbage.....  I start the inspection tomorrow at 10am at my price and a choice of guest rooms for a weekend when they take over.  ;D
