TOPIC: Black Steel gas line

Black Steel gas line 13 years 4 months ago #43092

Anyone have any thoughts on unions for black steel gas lines in reference to how many you can have? I know they need to be accessible, but is there any reason you should not have them anywhere except at the appliance?

Hey Mike, are you talking about joint connects at corners, etc.? Except for corners it's required to be a solid run isn't it? I'm also asking- not saying!

Depending on what future plans are, when I install black pipe, I always put a union at the end of long runs before a 90.  If not, the only way to add in a stub or additional line is to cut the pipe and re-thread it after you disassemble more than you need to.

Any unions should be accessible.  For an additional $1 or $2 I always put in a T and cap instead of a regular connector in long runs.

There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh cut grass on a baseball infield, the click of a wooden bat and the taste of a hot dog at a warm sunny daytime double-header.
