TOPIC: Inspection Sub-contractors

Inspection Sub-contractors 13 years 5 months ago #41782

I welcome as many opinions on this question as possible. What do you guys think about inspectors sub-contracting portions of a basic "SOP" home inspection(HVAC, Electrical, etc.)?

Is this practice within SOP standards? I know it may vary by state, but just in general.
Does the client benefit or suffer from this practice? Again, your opinions in general.
Are there legal issues or liability issues which could come from this?

Any responses would be really helpful.

UPDATED

I should clarify further. I'm not talking about anything commercial or optional systems/components, just the standard home inspection which would be determined by legal & ethical guidelines from state law and inspection association SOP's.  I'm also not talking about hiring other home inspectors, I'm referring to having an HVAC contractor do the furnace/AC for you, or an electrician do the electrical system, etc, etc.

I see it often when guys are doing apartment complexes or commercial buildings. AT that point it's pretty much a requirement to do the best job possible. You'll want to check with your insurance though to see how they handle it. Some guys have everything still under their name where others keep them as separate reports.

Not allowed in Washington.

As an independent business owner, I also do not want to rely on some other person when my name / reputation is on the line.

There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh cut grass on a baseball infield, the click of a wooden bat and the taste of a hot dog at a warm sunny daytime double-header.
