I carry a little dust buster with me.  A 18 V battery operated vacuum cleaner.  Comes in handy to clean up what ever falls out of the attic hatch or off my clothes after coming out of the attic.
The last inspection had an attic hatch that had been insulated with expanded poly styrene.  An animal (my guess is a raccoon) had scratched or chewed it into little bits.  My little dust buster was no match.  After explaining what happened, I asked the home owner if I could use her vacuum cleaner.  She said she would clean it up her self.  Anyways; do you guys have a vacuum cleaner with you for cases like this?  Thanks.

I have a dust buster, but I usually do not use.

I keep in car, just in case. I can usually clean up by hand.

None of the above.  I carry an 8x10 cloth fabric drop cloth.  I spread it out before I attempt to open any attics.  Whatever falls onto the drop cloth.  When finished, take the drop cloth outside and shake it out.

If one of the silly little scuttle openings is in a closet, drape the drop cloth over the clothes to limit damage.

I have pulled out the seller's vacumn once or twice to clean up other issues.  Opened bedroom window and walked out on to porch roof.  Climbing back through the window, my shoe left roof granules on the white carpet.  I put my shoe covers back on, found the sellers vacumn, cleaned up and continued the inspection.

Drop cloth sounds good.  Drop cloth and dust buster is better than carrying a full size vacuum cleaner with me.  Thanks.
