It states right on the tank about the dangers of scalding. 125 degrees.

If I test above 120 degrees I turn the tank down.

I recently did a tank with a fan assisted blower and the fan assisted digital controls did not indicate a temperature.  Turns out it was damaged and glad I called it out.

I returned to the home 2 days later for a radon test and asked the sellers if the noticed a different temperature. The lady stated yes it has seemed hotter. The gentleman took me to the tank and stated the fan assisted device operated and I showed him it was the controls. He then realized he had this serviced before and stated the repair man was needed again.

Isn't it interesting the the DOE is saying that manufacturers set them to 140? Sounds like a dangerous piece of misinformation.
