TOPIC: Client wants Log Cabin inspection - no experience here

A fellow BNI member is purchasing a log cabin and has asked for my input and to inspect it. I was honest with him and told him I had never inspected a log home before.

Is a log cabin something that I should refer him someplace else for the inspection, since I have no experience in this area? Is the online Log Home course offered by NACHI something that would "qualify" me?

Any/all input is appreciated.

I started the log cabin course at NACHI but didn't get it done.  It is my next course as I must complete it soon.  Anywho, it is VERY knowledgeable.  I would take the course then decide if you are comfortable doing the inspection.

There are quite a few things to know when it comes to log cabins. There are different types of logs.

I would still pass on a log cabin if someone was to request an inspection.

I did take the Log Home Course in NACHI and I think that it was very knowledgable but some additional information would be helpful. There are several types of logs or better yet the logs are dried differently which will effect the home. Definitely increase your pricing because it will take longer than a regular home to inspect. In my area a 2000 sq ft home and under I charge $300 but a log home will start at $450.
