Pellet stove vent pipe travels through the first floor wall on the exterior, up through the porch roof. Lots of soot on siding and soffit. any thoughts?

DIY-s and handyman's are always being a wounder-kid's ! When I see something like this, i just ask - do those people have common sense ! Do they have eyes to see their installation if they didn't have time to read and understand Manufacturers Installation Manual ! Years ago, I have experienced similar situation (incorrect venting, and use of inadequate materials and type of flue piping) with Tankless Water Heaters (or should I say "Hot water Heaters",

The soot would be a very minor issue compared to venting so close to an operable window. Death or soot... hmmm.

Standards vary, but carbon monoxide exhaust vents should be at least 6 feet from door / window openings and / or 3 foot above same.
The flue to be used and fire proofing around same will depend on the rating of the gas / oil burner. |
