TOPIC: Upside down frunace...literaly

Upside down frunace...literaly 13 years 10 months ago #38381

So can a furnace be installed upside down?  we'll I guess a better question: Is installing a furnace upside down a proper instalation (it's evident from my photos that it can be done so the question is should it be done)?  I know furnaces can be installed sideways.

This just really blew my mind when I saw it.

Is it a multi-position unit? If it is then the install may be correct. Check with the manufacturer, the data label may indicate if it is multi-positional. Are the supply ducts in a crawl space?

I don't have the manufacture info.  I'll have to check on that.
The air intake is in the upper level.  They had heat distribution registers in the second floor ceiling and in the first floor floor.

How old is the unit? Sounds like it is the configuration needed, you just want to confirm that unit can be installed this way.
