TOPIC: Question about pictures

Question about pictures 16 years 3 weeks ago #4033

Brand new trial user trying to build templates and such. Did a test inspection to see how all would print out
and how the pictures look. I inserted a picture of a data plate from an AC unit and couldn't read a single
thing in the printed copy or in the preview. My question is should I decrease the pixel size when taking the picture
or is there a way to have a high res image in the report?

Having "fun" modifying the template and adding all the info.

Thanks for the help

Hi Jeff,

Welcome to Home Inspector Pro :) Glad to see you on the forum and having fun!

The software automatically resizes all the images to 400 pixels wide to keep the PDF's as small as possible without compromising quality as that's the size of the images in the PDF themselves. Taking them at a lower resolution wouldn't make a difference. It would be helpful to see exactly what you're talking about though. Could you please email me the pdf and a copy of the image to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . I'm assuming all your other pictures came out fine?

Hi Jeff,

Yeah, with a picture that that which has small text you'd want to zoom in directly on the label (don't include any of the surrounding area) and maybe even split it into two shots. There's really no other way as the image isn't going to be taking up a full page on the report, which is what's required to see it fully. Even if the image in the PDF was at the highest resolution possible, you wouldn't be able to read it as it's too small. Hopefully this makes sense, let me know!

Thanks for taking a look at it Dominic. I think your answer made good sense to me. Now I have an idea of how to make it work.
Thanks for the quick help.

No problem. Let me know how it goes. We do plan on adding a feature where you can adjust the size of the pictures but you still wouldnt want a huge image taking up the page.

Actually Dom, I think there something to reducing the size of the photo before importing.  I was NOT reducing (3264x2448 native) the photos and when I imported them into HIP the photos were VERY grainy and some writing was unreadable.  I had a thought that the reducing algorithm used by HIP might be the problem.  So I reduced the photos to 640x480 FIRST and then imported them with MUCH better results.  I will send you an example report with 2 pictures at each starting resolution so you can see what I mean.
