Can you import narratives from an excel or word document into HIP. or do you have to type in new ones.

I am able to copy and paste from one template to another, but am unable to copy and paste from excel to HIP.

You can copy and paste from word or another program. What you need to do is highlight the text in word or excel and click copy or ctrl-c. Then go into HIP, click Edit Comments so you're in edit mode, click "Add" on the left side of the section you want the comment to appear in. Then click in the edit box and hit ctrl-v to paste the comment.

John, did figure out how to get this to work okay now?

How you stated to do it works from programs outside of HIP.
You are able to do one narrative at time as opposed to being able to do multiple if using a copy paste from HIP to HIP.
After looking at it more I decided I really didnt want to import large batches of narratives at one time, because I want each one to be specific to the location that I place it in.

Yeah there's really no easier way to import from another program like word as there's no way to figure out where a narrative starts or ends. We were able to make an importer from InspectVue because they had every narrative in a single file so it was simple to separate.
