Yes John! You won't regret it! I firmly believe the training should include a thorough understanding of thermodynamics as it relates to buildings. This is not an easy technology as some make it out to be. Yes it is VERY easy to capture an image... the difficulty is accurately interpreting the information you are seeing. This is where most get into trouble VERY quickly. |

David K. and others...
In my opinion, you will make a grave mistake seeking to enter this field as cheaply as possible. While it is true that the technology is becoming less expensive than it was even a year ago. I encourage you to research, research, research. There is LOADS of information available on the web to assist you in your decisions. Some camera lens components are 4-5k alone due to the quality of material that is required. All I am saying that this is not a simple "point and shoot" technology. There is a lot of misinformation spewed about by other inspectors who claim it to be easy and the technology outrageously priced. I'm not saying this to discourage anyone... I firmly believe this technology will have a huge positive impact on your business should you get into it. Just do it right. |

Good stuff Bill. Sometimes the camera can make something look much colder than its surrounds when in fact it is only a couple of degrees.
I had a house a couple of weeks ago - over the kitchen window, which was not in the sun at the time, registered 66 degrees and the interior wall was 69 degrees. But, looking at the image over the window made it look a lot colder. Another bedroom window, in the sun at the time, registered 31 degrees when the interior wall was 66. THAT is an insulation problem, when the first was just a variance due to location. It is a science, to be sure. But also an art in a sense - very, very subjective. And, boys and girls, listen to Bill - don't go cheap for the sake of cheap. It may not serve you well... |
