John, if you can't figure out how to get Fluke's software to rename, Irfranview does a pretty good job. I don't have the fluke software, but Greg Scheer does so you can ask him.

Okay, I still want to play with it a little more. This was the first time I have used the Fluke software.

Hey guys I have a question or two. While playing around with the IR pics I noticed the back ground temperature was set to 71.6ºF for both inside and outside the house. Would this have been an incorrect setting? The temp outside was about 31ºF and temp inside was approx 75-80ºF. Wouldn't you want the background temp setting to be as close to realistic as possible? Also, what do you guys set your emissivity to? The way I understand emissivity, 0.95 should be used for very dark (black items). That's the setting we used when calibrating IR temp guns on a black surface. You could probably get away with 0.95 but for more accurate readings wouldn't you want to change it to better represent the type of material you are shooting?

John, the background temp could be changed but for our application it may not make a difference. The .95 emissivity I leave alone because unless you're looking at chrome, windows, and the like, it's a good generic setting. Try to check a temp on glass and you get the reflection temp, but place a piece of tape on the window and you can measure the window temp by ppointing the crosshairs at the tape. Pretty neat. SmartView 2.1 is out and you can change those settings for the picture when you're viewing it on the program. I use HIP for my reports and despite the pain in the butt to convert, I like being able to use the callouts. I make two folders and export the IR to one and the VL to the other. I mostly use the PIP version in my reports so they are typically what I export. Also pretty neat! Greg |
