TOPIC: A Little On The Commercial Side III

A Little On The Commercial Side III 14 years 4 months ago #33767

I got called back in to my Commercial Work for a few weeks and don't know how long it will last, and don't seem more than a few weeks.
I thought I would open this category to post a few pictures of my projects as it goes along.
If interested, I will post a few pictures as I go along.

Thanks :) ;)

One viewer is good enough for me Bert.  :)

This week, Stairway to Heaven and Start of Steam Vault Pits.

Church Steeple renovation at Colby College Liberal Arts College.

Built in 1945, this is one of the older structures on campus. The staging is engineered and erected with all the safety features to meet OSHA Guidelines. It stands 150 tall and is and was a gruesome climb for me for two days this week.
All the copper on the Spire and lower water tables down the tower are being removed along with the wood siding and flashed properly and reconstructed to match its original design.
The first 75 feet had stairs and the last 75 to the cross is a straight ladder with a retractabl life line attached to your harness as you go up.

Straight up :)

Shed roof water tables below the spire are stripped and all the existing trim stripped of Lead Paint and the boards are all screwed down using GRK screws. The GRK screws are self drilling and self countersinking without splitting the dry wood.
Predrill at edges only.

The wood board sheathing is covered using Blue Skin by Henry Products because it is tolerable to the heat under the new copper. A slip sheet is installed over the Self adhered underlayment before the copper is installed. That slip sheet is nothing less than a Resin Paper.

Well this is going to be difficult if I cannot post a link shortcut for a PDF
Blue skin underlayment was a hyperlink, and the first one was a copy shortcut and neither of them work here.

Maybe someone can help me with that.

Wow.  What is your role in this?  When you say you got called back to your commercial work, did you mean you are in charge of the project or are you the inspector for the project or...?

Re: A Little On The Commercial Side III 14 years 4 months ago #33810

Bert, I have been a supervisor for this Company for 40 years, second generation and now the two brothers of the owner are superintendants also, and when work is slow during the economy guess who is left to work.
I got called in because of all the years and experience as a Master Carpenter Commercial Builder to work with my tools to maintain my Health Insurance and unemployment benifet.
They left me the company vehicle for the past year so I could exist while unemployed.

My employer now used to work for me when a kid working for his father. Very smart man. I have been in Commercial since 1975, that is about when I got bored of Residential building. Not enough challenges. Of course not too many 4 million dollar homes around here.  ;)
