TOPIC: PayPal rip off

Re: PayPal rip off 15 years 4 months ago #16468

How would it be possible for Visa/Mastercard to determine who the lap top belongs to?  I see people making online credit card payments from library computers, Kinkos, etc... People buy and sell used computers on ebay, craigs list, etc..

I ran about $18K through my paypal credit card processing system in 08', they told me today that nothing is going to change.  If it does you guys will be the first to hear about it...

That's what I'm saying. They won't be able to tell, so you'll be fine. According to their rules it's a problem, but in reality there's nothing they can do (like you said).

This is no doubt just another money making scheme by the credit card industry.  They'll find out soon enough that "Cash Is King" and clients will stop using the cards as the fees become unreasonable.

As long as we as consumers are handing our credit cards to the waitress who leaves the area, this stuff will never be secure.  I've had two cards cancelled in the last two years.  One was a breach of account numbers by a Southwest Airlines employee, the other was a breach in the Wamu Visa card processing facility, also by an in house employee...

For them to force another $300 per year on vendors will do nothing for security, but will definitely line their pockets....

What's next? Taxes on my health plan:)

Yup, the big thing that sparked all this (among other things) was a very large grocery chain had millions of numbers stolen. I've also had 2 new cards. One was sent 2 months after the previous expired, which was REALLY fun to redo everything. When I've talked to the bank, they're hoping that everyone complains so that Visa & MC back off, exactly like you've said.

The money goes to companies that are performing the compliance (no doubt with kick backs to the bank). Right now ours is looking at $120 a year which is more reasonable. I'm going to get stuck with the $300+ from paypal as I use the virtual terminal when people call and purchase software over the phone. Some people have dial up and hate doing anything online.

I for one have done away with all my credit cards.  Felt it was time to get back to good old fashioned currency for my spending.  And taxing the health care plan... That's not a bad idea!  We all need to be taxed just a little bit more.  I'm going to write the President a letter and see what he can do!  I just cant wait tell we are taxed at 51%.

You mean you're not taxed at 51%? Move to California! 9.5% sales tax , 9.3% state income tax (for anyone making over $40k) , 25%-28% for many Californian's for federal tax, so that's 46%, then throw in your real estate tax and whatever else I'm not thinking of. It gets pretty darn close to 51%!
