I grew up in the South-Side and left after high school. With my exposure to two Unions in my earlier days, my older brother working the tunnels and my father working the steel mills, I am fully indoctrinated to the ways of the Union! They definately had their time and place in our history, but have now become outdated. Chicago will be their "Custer's last stand".

You can bury non-metallic wiring that is rated for that use. Typically called 'UF' cable, it is the kind that is hard to strip and does not contain paper material in the jacket. Allowed by the NEC, some local codes may forbid it's use.
