Hey HIPPIES,

Todays inspection was in the mountains and took me all day. A real bummer being around the trees, stream and chipmunks. I found these outlets mounted to the bottom of the Kitchen sink base cabinet facing up. One outlet is for the food waste disposer and the other is for the dishwasher. Whats your opinion about the mounting???

Directly under the drain too? Wow. My opinion is, extremely stupid. Having any electrical in there at all isn't even that smart as any sort of leak could spray sideways as well and cause a fire. In my kitchen the electrical runs through the cabinet to a socket in a dry zone!

I would consider that to be the same as having an outlet mounted horizontal in a counter top next to a sink.  Its a safety hazard, and I would write it up as a life/health safety issue that should be repaired by a qualified professional.

Safety Hazard. Improper electrical practice. Location: Under kitchen sink. Recommendation. Have a qualified contractor properly install.

Sure wish I could change colors in the Hip report.

Common Dom quite goofing around and start updating the program ;D

And I bet they weren't GFCI protected.

In Virginia, under-sink mountings need to be at least 6" high and secured to the cabinet or wall.  At least they separated the dishwasher and disposal!

Also, here cables are not allowed to pass through surfaces, or walls, or cabinets to plug into an outlet somewhere else...
