Is this a video card problem or monitor problem?
I get this error VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics drive commands. I attached a screen shot. Also my comp seems to stop working and the monitor keeps resetting and going black then it comes back. |

Definitely a graphics card issue. Figure out what kind of graphics card you have and download the latest drivers. Let me know the model if you have trouble finding them.

I have an ATI Radeon Sapphire x1950 Pro card. I have never really been able to figure out how to update the driver. But here is a page I was looking at.

Uninstall the driver, then reboot the computer. Windows will ask if it can install the driver for you, say no. Then run the program you listed. Reboot and update us.

OK, I did what you said and what a pain in the ass.
I got the same result. Then the computer locked up so I had to turn off the comp at the power button and then back on, and I kept getting to the desktop, but then the monitor would display that it was testing the cables and it would stay there. I turned the comp off. I would wait a few minutes and turned it on and got the same result with the testing for about 8 tries. I did it again and I got a blue screen that the disk needed to be checked and I let it do the check. I turned off again and on and I got a message about the video was in an infinite loop and this indicated that the driver was messed up or the card wasn't working properly, NO SHIT!! I turned off and on again and when it came back it had the same result with the lines on the screen as in the screen shot I provided. I turned it off again waited a few minutes and the desktop came up but the cursor would freeze and I could not do anything, even shift+alt+delete did not work. I turned on and off again for about 10 times with the same result. But, on the 11th try it seems to have fixed it. The lines are gone and the other problems also. I am not sure how it got fixed, but I am wondering if I am going to need a new card in the near future. |
