I am interested in switching from manual to digital. However I am hoping not to drag a computer to the site and not really sure I want a smaller device either. I typcially give a good oral report after the inspection and deliver the report on site. How can I please the realtors with a new method of reporting and still satisfy the oral report part? I am contemplating these changes and would rather just upload the report and pictures from the home office. Does anyone use a field report or a way to fill in that I would be comfortable with? I do not type and am not sure I want to use the pc on site. I am very highly recommended because of my professional inspections and delivery at the end of the time. I am trying to figure out what compromises I may need to make in order to do it a new way.

Hi Tim,
It used to be that most inspectors printed on site. Now that's reversed and most inspectors actually deliver their reports electronically within 24 hours. Like you said, they just give an oral report on site as they walk their client around. If you're using written reports right now you're going to be one of the few left in the area. Upgrading to an electronic format with photos is going to present your reports in a much better way anyways. Some inspectors enter data on site, some print a blank report, handwrite in data then do the work at home. It's all personal preference. |

Did any of you change your pricing once you went from manual to all digital? I see this taking more time since I won't be finished up on site.
Thanks, Tim |

Definitely takes more time, especially at first. But since this is the industry standard (around 90% of inspectors use digital), it'll be hard to charge extra for it. Where do you live?

I am in Central Va. but I think my pricing has stayed on the low end anyway and a price raise would not raise eyebrows at this point. I have even had Realtors suggest this.

Quite possible! There's quite a few VA users here on the forums, you can definitely ask them.
