TOPIC: What's the best AV/Spyware/Malware software available?

Hey everyone...

I've about had it with Viruses and Trojan Horses!!! I have been battling them for the last two months or so. They finally won, and toasted my laptop.

I now have my new laptop, with Windows 7 Pro 32bit. It came with Norton Internet Security. Before I delete it, I thought I would ask everyone's opinion on what they consider to be the best Anti-Virus/Spyware/Malware software out there, for Windows 7.

I have used many in the past with Windows XP. Some of them do not specify Windows 7, or state they are 'compatible' with Windows 7. I don't trust the term 'compatible' vs designed for.

Please don't recommend Norton or McAfee, unless you really believe in them, and offer your resons. I have found them to be worthless in the past.

I am also finding that many programs are not compatible with other programs. On my XP, I had to run an AV program, a Malware program, and a seperate Spyware program. Had no issues for 3 years. Until this last battle.

How do you all feel about the "Internet Security Suites" software that is becomming the latest rage?

Basically... If you replaced your computer today, what would you run to protect your investment? My last laptop lasted 5 years. I would love for this one to get close to that.

PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Antivirus.  Takes care of all you needs.  $40 per year for 2 computers.

It is not a memory hog and does not slow down your system at all when it is running.  It monitors internet sites and your email.

Thanks, that is what I just installed, as I already have the software from your earlier recommendation. As with other softwares, it is not compatible with the OEM Windows Defender that also came installed on the computer. I disabled Defender for now to run Spyware Dr. I have never used Defender. Is it a quality product? Any other suggestions? Thanks again for all your help a while back.

I tend to stay away from MS products and their built in programs.  There are so many people out there that just hate MS with such a passion they just want to destroy them.  I have always kept the MS firewalls / Defender turned off and only use IE for MANUAL update installation.  Ive been using PC Tools brand since 1992 with 5.25 inch discs.....    Oops.  Showing my age.

The only thing worse than a nasty virus is a corrupted profile.

I've never had a problem with the MS Firewall, in fact it's all I use. I run AVG on top of that (paid version on a few machines, free on others). Honestly, the best protection is just being careful of what you open and to stop sending money to those people in Nigeria. They really don't have a billion dollars waiting for you. It's more like 50 million. Totally not worth it.
