It's possible this is real, so you'll want to make sure to run a virus scan on your machine. The F-secure scan may work, you will also want to make sure to have actual Anti-virus software installed on your computer, and that you keep it up to date. One popular option is AVG, which offers a free Personal Edition ( free.avg.com ).

I've gotten a similar message in the past (we use Comcast here). Make sure that you do virus scans using a couple utilities, as not every scanner will catch every option. If all of them come up clean, you should then call back your ISP and tell them you've done multiple scans and they all came up clean. The way they determine whether to show this message is based on traffic patterns coming from your machine, so it's not always 100%, but it's worth checking to see if you do have an infection.

What Dan said. I'd also reboot into safe mode (F8 during start up) and run the scan there.

As you see in my first post I have already run several tools to no avail, including AVG, and I have also done them in safe mode to no avail. But, I did run the "remove it" tool which is similar to combofix, but works with AVG. It seems to maybe have worked because now I can send email from the affected account. I will have to wait and see how things work for a few days.
