I've noticed that in the first week or so of people using HIP about 10% of users misunderstand the purpose of print preview. Print preview creates a pdf from the CURRENTLY open inspection only. I'll get an email or two a week from someone who thought they could look at a pdf they already created by clicking print preview then clicking on an inspection they already did. Of course this just ends up overwriting the pdf they created with whatever inspection is currently open (often a blank).
I've been thinking of a few ways to eliminate this confusion, tell me what you think. First, I was thinking of renaming 'Preview Report' to 'Generate Report', second I was thinking of removing the Print Report button. Does anyone use that button? Clicking Print Report prints the report without even showing it to you. It seems that every inspector I've watched use the program clicks on preview first to see the report and review it before printing it. I was also thinking of having the installer create a shortcut on the desktop to the pdf reports (Client Reports folder). That way people could easily look at the pdf's. What do you think? |

Dominic I like your approach. Let's get rid of the print report button and make the preview button a generate report button. I also like the desktop short-cut to the client reports a great feature.

I can automate the shortcut on a Windows machine easily. I'll have to look at how to do that on a mac. Although on a mac the program is on the desktop anyways so you just need to click on Home Inspector Pro then Client Reports and you're there (so one extra click).
