Dom, it would be great if there could be a blank item at the top of each list. I create some of my lists, for example, like this: <<LOCATION>> north south east west , north , south , east , west & north & south & east & west Then I can make comments like: There is earth-to-wood contact at the<<LOCATION>><<LOCATION>><<LOCATION>> side of the house. which can be used like so: There is earth-to-wood contact at the north side of the house. There is earth-to-wood contact at the south, east & north side of the house. There is earth-to-wood contact at the west & east side of the house. Unfortunately I have to have that one space in the first blank item, so if I only use one of the lists I have to delete the extra spaces before moving on: There is earth-to-wood contact at the north side of the house. There is earth-to-wood contact at the west & east side of the house. So yes, it would be great if the default when nothing was selected on a drop-down list was... well... nothing. Because really, deleting a space is SO MUCH WORK. |

David, do you have a way to hold the control key or another key when moving comments from red to black?

Without taking anything away from Cameron’s excellent point to Dominic.
As a side note, in keeping with the KISS rule—a while back I changed my directional locations to just FRONT, REAR, LEFT side, and RIGHT side. Most people get Front and Rear of the home—so I insert the following statement at the beginning of each report: This home faces approximately (NORTH / SOUTH / EAST / WEST). Directional references using the terms "left" or "right" assume the reader is facing the front entrance. Also—when I walk around the property with the client—I make it a point to mention this convention. I know this is not an original thought, as most home inspectors do something similar. As a pilot, I got too familiar with cardinal headings, but I find that normal humans seldom know where's N/S/E/W with relation to their house -- sometimes Left and Right is difficult. So to help make the reporting more crystal clear . . . and easier on me, I generally stay away from compass headings in my report. It helps keep the “What did you mean by that?” phone calls down to a dull roar. |

Cameron, I just finished the change for you with the blank spaces and will build it and post it in a bit after I think some more about what David wants.
David, if comments were merged together would you want a space automatically inserted between the comments, a comma, or completely blank? |
